Güneş Kozal graduated from the Department of Acting at the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts of Bilkent University in 2001. She completed her Master’s degree in the Advanced Acting Programme of the Department of Theatre at the Institute of Social Sciences of Haliç University with a thesis entitled “Gender in Historical Plays of Turkish Theatre.”
She completed her PhD in the Department of Theatre Criticism and Dramaturgy at the Institute of Social Sciences of Istanbul University with a dissertation entitled “Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s Understanding of the Body and the Liberated Actor in Contemporary Theatre.”
During her acting career at Bakırköy Municipal Theatres (2001–2008), where she began her professional career, she performed in more than fifteen productions. While working at the Turkish Cypriot State Theatres between 2008 and 2011, she also served as an assistant instructor in the Acting Department of Near East University.
Following her return to Istanbul in 2011, she collaborated with various alternative theatre groups and continued her acting career in television series, cinema, and voice-over work. She worked as a research assistant in the Department of Theatre at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Yeditepe University and, during this period, also taught several courses as an instructor.
Between 2013 and 2016, she participated in all eight modules of the Michael Chekhov Europe Acting Workshop organised by the Department of Theatre at Yeditepe University Faculty of Fine Arts and served as project coordinator for the final three modules.
In 2016, she completed the three-module certificate programme “Acting Method of Theodoros Terzopoulos” organised by the Attis Theatre Company under the direction of Theodoros Terzopoulos.
In 2017, she worked as a lecturer in the Drama and Acting Department of the School of Performing Arts at Girne American University and served as Head of Department during the final two years before the department’s closure.
In 2022, she established the Acting Department at ARUCAD Faculty of Music and Performing Arts and served as its Head of Department.
She took part in two performances presented by the 22/11 Performance Projects Theatre Company within the framework of Eclectic Manifesto and the Nicosia Biennale. She also performed as an actor in the second edition of the KISSA project created by the So Collective Theatre Company.
She currently works as an academic at the University of Mediterranean Karpasia while simultaneously serving as Event Manager.
