Through Ordinary Eyes

Nicosia

09 January 2026

On the 9th of January 2026 the exhibition Through Ordinary Eyes was inaugurated in Nicosia, at the Ledra street Crossing venue. The exhibition is a visual celebration of everyday life in the city. Curated by Haris Pellapaisiotis and Ayşegül Salamis Şentuğ-Tuğyan and initiated by the Technical Committee on Culture, Through Ordinary Eyes honours the people from both sides of Nicosia as the primary observers and narrators of their own lived experiences. Drawing from the digital images of more than one hundred Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot contributors, this exhibition presents a collective portrait of the city that captures the reflective simplicity of the everyday. By focusing on moments of home, family, friendship, and familiar surroundings, the exhibition highlights the shared humanity of life as it is truly lived. These photographs, captured to preserve personal narratives for both the present and the future, serve as universal artifacts of place-making. Organised by theme, the collection transcends physical and social boundaries, immersing the viewer in the recurring rhythms of Nicosian daily life. In these frames, familiarity becomes a bridge, revealing a city unified by the universal language of everyday aesthetics and the enduring value of the ordinary.
The exhibition will remain open until the 23rd of January.
