Born in Nicosia in 1972, Okan Ersan focused on modern jazz harmony and composition following his academic training at the Marmara University Classical Guitar Department. He gained international recognition in 2003 when he was selected as one of the top five guitarists of the year in a competition organized by Guitarist Magazine in the UK.
Throughout his career, Ersan has performed at prestigious venues such as the Leverkusen Jazztage and various international jazz festivals, appearing as a supporting artist for legendary figures including Al Di Meola, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Robben Ford, and Snowy White. He has collaborated on album recordings with the German jazz-metal group Panzerballet and shared the stage with drum legend Dave Weckl for joint workshops and performances.
Bringing an interdisciplinary dimension to his music, Ersan bridges science and art through projects like the album “Nibiru”, inspired by Sumerian tablets, and “Living in Space”, based on Carl Sagan’s “Pale Blue Dot.” These works have been featured during UNESCO Science Days in Austria. An international endorser for Yamaha and PRS Guitars, Ersan continues to perform globally while conducting masterclasses and workshops for the next generation of musicians at leading universities.
